You can create a CV on your phone. You do not need to wait until you get a laptop. A browser or document app can help you start.
A good CV tells an employer what you can do. The words matter more than a fancy design. This guide shows you how to build a clear CV from your phone.
What you need before you start
- A charged Android phone or iPhone
- Internet access for an online CV maker
- Your phone number and email address
- Your work, school, and training details
- A few examples of work you have done
Write these facts in your Notes app first. This saves time when you fill in a form. Keep a copy in case your data runs out or the page closes.
1. Choose how to make your CV
You can use an online CV maker, such as MantaJobs. You can also type your CV in Google Docs or Word on your phone. Choose a tool that lets you edit the text easily.
Open the MantaJobs CV builder in your browser. If you have an old CV, choose Yes and upload it. If you do not, choose No. You can then use your LinkedIn profile or choose Or, skip this step to enter your details.
Check the price and download rules before you spend time on any tool. Free creation and free downloads are not always the same thing.
2. Add your name and contact details
Put your full name at the top. Add an email address you check often. Add your phone number and city, such as Ibadan, Nigeria.
For an overseas role, use your phone number with the country code, such as +234. A full home address is usually not needed for a first application.
3. Write a short summary
Use two or three lines to explain your skills and the work you want. Keep it about the job.
Sample: “Business graduate with experience helping customers during NYSC. I used Excel to track orders and wrote clear replies to customer questions. I am looking for a customer support role.”
Use this as a guide. Change it to fit your own real experience.
4. Add your work, skills, and school
Put your newest work first. Add the job title, employer, and dates. Write short bullet points about what you did.
- Processed about 25 customer orders each week.
- Made a weekly Excel report for the shop owner.
- Helped pupils practise English during NYSC.
These are sample points. Use numbers only when they are true. If you are new to work, include an internship, school project, or useful volunteer work.
5. Choose a simple layout
Use one column for a simple reading order. Keep headings clear. Give each section enough space. Do not make the text tiny just to fit one page.
Read our CV format guide for the section order and examples.
6. Check the whole page
Turn your phone sideways if the page is hard to see. Zoom in to check the words. Then zoom out and look at the full page.
- Can you read the text without strain?
- Are any lines cut off?
- Are the dates right?
- Do your email and phone number work?
- Do the links open?
7. Save and find your CV file
Follow the file type in the job post. Save a PDF if that is what the employer asks for. Keep an editable copy too.
In MantaJobs, use the download menu when you are ready. Some exports may need a paid plan. In a document app, check its share or export menu for the file type you need.
Google explains how to download a file on Android. Menu names can vary between phone apps.
Open your Files or Downloads app and find the saved file. Give it a clear name, such as Amina-Bello-Customer-Support-CV.pdf.
8. Open the file before you send it
Read the saved file, not just the preview. Check every page. If possible, ask a friend to open it on another phone.
Attach the file when a job asks for a CV. A photo or screenshot of a CV is harder to read and may not work with a job application system.
Common questions
Can I make a CV without work experience?
Yes. Show your school projects, training, internships, and volunteer work. Say what you did and what you learned.
Can I use an iPhone?
Yes. A CV maker that runs in your browser can work on an iPhone. Check its file download steps and keep a copy you can find later.
Can I use WhatsApp to send my CV?
Yes, if the employer asks for it. Send the CV as a document. Confirm the contact is real before you share personal details.
Start with clear words and true facts. You can improve the design later. Before each application, change the top parts of your CV to fit the job.
